Zimbabwe men’s football team the ‘Warriors’ have reached to the Afcon 2022 finals in Cameroon after dismantling Botswana in Francistown yesterday.
With a game to spare, Warriors beat The Zebras by one goal.
Perfect Chikwende scored the solitary goal.
Warriors had to wait for the tight Zambia and Algeria match to confirm their qualification.
Zambia labored for a draw with their Northern African opponents and took their tally to four points, four less than Zimbabwe.
This meant the Warriors, who have eight points, cannot be matched either Zambia or Botswana, who also have four, even if they lose their final match, against Chipolopolo, on Monday.
A video circulating on social media shows jubilant Warriors celebrating at their hotel singing their traditional song “basa tasiya tapedza (the die is cast).”
Zimbabwe Warriors have qualified for the AFCON finals for the fifth time after achieving the same feat in 2004, 2006, 2017, and 2019.
