The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South, Dr. Evelyn Ndlovu, on Tuesday toured Gwanda State University’s (GSU) 18 hectares of land under wheat production, which is now ready for harvesting.

During her visit, Dr. Ndlovu praised the University’s efforts, noting that the wheat crop would significantly contribute to reducing food insecurity in both the province and the country. She also encouraged the institution to diversify by planting small grains such as sorghum and millet, which thrive in the region’s climate.

GSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Doreen Moyo, highlighted that the University aims to be self-sufficient by leveraging its agro-innovation hub to produce its own wheat. Gwanda State University, established in 2016, offers programs in agriculture and mining engineering.
