Govt Urges Caution During Easter Holidays

HARARE – Government has reiterated the need to safeguard human life by urging drivers and the general public to exercise caution whilst driving during Easter Holidays.

 

In a statement on Thursday, Health and Child Care permanent secretary Air Commodore Jasper Chimedza said drivers should avoid speeding and drinking whilst drunk.

 

“Hundreds of people die every year from preventable road traffic accidents, particularly during the holiday period, alcohol impairment accounts for the 3rd of these fatalities.

 

“If travelling over the Easter Holidays, get plenty of rest and be prepared for vehicle breakdown and medical emergencies, ” reads part of the communique.

 

He also advised the general public to adhere to health protocols to avoid the further spread of transmissible diseases cholera and Covid 19.

 

“Furthermore, the public is reminded to remain vigilant in light of the ongoing cholera outbreaks.

 

“We therefore would like to encourage all citizens to adhere to Cholera and Covid-19 preventive measures. We wish you a blessed and safe Easter”
