Govt Installs 21 Automated Weather Stations

Yvonne Mutambwa
Government has established at least 21 Automated Weather Stations nationwide through the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the latest development will enhance weather forecasting.
“The Ministry has installed a total of 21 Automatic Weather Stations at existing Meteorological Services stations around the country in order to enhance weather forecasting,” she said in a post-cabinet brief on Tuesday.
An automated weather station is an integrated system of components that measure, record, and often transmit weather parameters such as temperature, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, and precipitation.
Meanwhile, an established radar network has made significant progress at the country’s airports like Victoria Falls International and Buffalo Range Airports.
An airport surveillance radar (ASR) is a radar system used at airports to detect and display the presence and position of aircraft in the terminal area, the airspace around airports.
It is the main air traffic control system for the airspace around airports.
