The uptake of government’s school feeding program is showing significant progress in most schools across the district, according to a recent inspection of more than 10 institutions.
Both primary and secondary schools have embraced the initiative, with the Second Republic supplying maize meal to ensure that every child receives a hot meal while at school.
In a community-driven effort, parents from these schools take turns preparing the meals, supported by neighboring villages, which also contribute by providing relish.
At St. Phillips Magwenya High School, students can purchase a plate with meat for US$0.50 on days when the meal consists of vegetables.
Additionally, Magwenya Primary School, under the Harare Diocese of the Anglican Church, supplements the meals with Mahewu, a nutritious beverage.
Teachers have praised the Second Republic for supporting students with a staple diet, noting that the program has contributed to increased school enrollment.
The initiative has fostered community involvement and is making a tangible difference in both student attendance and well-being.
