Government to include safety of diasporans in bilateral conversations

Government has pledged to discuss the safety of its citizens working in foreign countries when it engages with its partners at bilateral platforms.
This was said during the launch of Migration Statistics and Recognition of the Migrants Skills Project in Harare yesterday.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima said there is already an existing mutual relationship between Rwanda and Zimbabwe, which have seen the exportation of professionals like teachers.
“We have completed bilateral relations with Rwanda where we are going to send mainly people in the teaching profession to that country,” said Minister Mavima.
The official movement of people between countries with both Governments knowing can help curb practices like human trafficking, Minister Mavima said.
It has been recorded by the International Organization for Migration that many Zimbabwean job seekers are ending up being victims to human trafficking.
Ruth Mavhunga Maboyi, the Home Affairs Deputy Minister welcomed the great turn by Government to safeguard refugees and migrants.

“It is a must for players and actors in migration governance, both in public and civic sectors, to strive to understand this phenomenon in order to respond appropriately through evidence based policies,” she said.
The bilateral approach to the movement of Zimbabwean citizens, is part of the country`s Migration Police which was launched in 2019.
