Government sets aside 33 billion for hospital construction

The Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncube has allocated $33 billion to the rehabilitation of hospitals and construction of new medical facilities.
Announcing the 2023 budget at the new parliament yesterday, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube shared plans to build 30 polyclinics and 5 district hospitals by 2025 under the NMS1 contract.
“Under phase 1 of the Enhanced Polyclinic Construction targeting four polyclinics, Stoneridge clinic has been completed and officially opened, ” said Minister Ncube.
In an effort to increase health coverage, Government is constructing new health posts, with a target of 1 600 health posts by 2025, of which 9 have already been constructed.
“9 health posts have been constructed during this fiscal year. These include, Matasa, in Buhera, Mashayamvura in Chivhu, 4 in Gokwe North and 3 in Centenary district,” said Minister Ncube.
Minister Ncube said Government in 2023 will finance the completion of some rural health centres through an allocation of ZWL$9.3 billion.
“Cowdry Park in Bulawayo is now 85% completed and will be officially opened in December 2022 to serve a target population of about 70 000.
“The other two polyclinics sites are under construction in Mataga, Mberengwa and Runyararo Chimanimani,” said Minister Ncube.
Additionally, the National Budget also provides ZWL$2 billion for procurement of ambulances, utility vehicles and other essential medical equipments.
Resources running up to ZWL$43 billion have been availed under the 2023
Budget for the procurement of medical supplies for public hospitals.
Meanwhile, Provision of public health is being modernized through investment in modern equipment and technology.
