The Department of Social Development (DSD) yesterday distributed grain to drought relief beneficiaries at ward 23 in Shangani.

The Department of Social Development was represented by Mr Mbongeni Moyo.

As part of the Second Republic’s drive of “leaving no one and no place behind,” the DSD has been distributing grain to the nation’s drought relief beneficiaries across the country.

Previously, the team has been distributing white and yellow maize and recently added wheat which they received from Bulawayo Grain Marketing Board.

DSD Representative, Mr Moyo applauded the Government for covering the cost of ferrying grain. Government’s efforts to mitigate the food deficit and supporting vulnerable communities are part of it’s ongoing commitment to ensuring food security.

However the community pleaded with the Government to reduce the quantity being given to an individual to accommodate more people in the program.

The beneficiaries were urged to budget the grain accordingly as the grain is for three months, with each beneficiary receiving 7.6kg of grain for three months on one go.
