Government ramps up Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy

In a Post cabinet briefing briefing yesterday,  Minister of Information and Publicity and Broadcasting Services,  Hon Jenfan Muswere applauded the government’s  efforts towards the Food Deficit Mitigation and Urban Cash Transfer.

He said this came out from a report on the food deficit mitigation strategy and urban cash transfer programme presented in Cabinet by Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister July Moyo.

It was noted that grain distribution is progressing well in most districts with grain stocks being replenished at local Grain Marketing Board depots which had experienced diminished stocks.

“During the period 16 to 24 July, 2024 a total of 24 364.43 metric tonnes of grain was distributed bringing cumulative total rot the months of May to June 2024 101 170.04 metric tones, out of the expected 138 170.79 metric tones,” said Minister Muswere.

However the nation is being informed that under the Urban Cash for Cereal Programme, training for both officials and community child care workers has commenced.

In addition, registration of beneficiaries is expected to complete by the end of July 2024, paving way for the commencement of cash disbursements in August 2024.

” Government had approved its Final Implementation Plan as well as the plans for the Replica Partners, World Food Programme (WFP) and the Start Network in line the requirements  of the Tripartie Memorandum of Understanding signed between the three parties.”
