HARARE – Cabinet approved 192 priority projects for the third 100-day cycle of 2024, spanning from September 4th to December 13th, said Dr Jenfan Muswere, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, during a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare, on Tuesday. The projects, presented by Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi on behalf of Minister of State Lovemore Matuke, are aligned with the 14 thematic areas of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
While a total of 577 projects were initially submitted, the final selection comprises 192 distinct initiatives after accounting for replications across different provinces. The distribution of these projects varies across the country, with Harare leading with 75 projects, followed by Mashonaland West and East with 60 and 57 projects, respectively. Manicaland has 63, Mashonaland Central 57, Midlands 58, Matabeleland North 59, Bulawayo 42, Masvingo 56, and Matabeleland South 50.
A key focus area under the “Image Building, International Engagement and Re-Engagement” pillar is the rehabilitation of infrastructure at foreign missions. This initiative targets missions in Nigeria (3 projects), Germany (1), the United Kingdom (1), Rwanda (1), South Africa (1), and Kenya (1).
The 192 projects are categorized under the NDS1 thematic areas, with Infrastructure and Utilities receiving the highest allocation with 37 projects. Other key areas include:
Devolution and Decentralisation: 12 projects (integrated within other thematic areas)
Digital Economy: 12 projects
Economic Growth and Stability: 17 projects
Environmental Protection, Climate Resilience and Natural Resources Management: 6 projects
Governance: 21 projects
Health and Well-being: 7 projects
Housing Delivery: 8 projects
Human Capital Development and Innovation: 16 projects
Image Building, International Engagement and Re-Engagement: 12 projects
Moving the Economy up the Value Chain and Structural Transformation: 21 projects
Social Protection: 10 projects
Youth, Sport and Culture: 13 projects
Food and Nutrition Security: 12 projects
The Special Advisor to the President on Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes will oversee the progress of these projects using the Executive Electronic Dashboard, in conjunction with the Offices of the Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution. This rigorous monitoring process aims to ensure timely and effective implementation of the projects, contributing to the overall goals of NDS1.
