In a significant milestone for Zimbabwe’s infrastructure development, the Glen Norah loop road at Mbudzi Interchange was officially opened to traffic on September 16, 2024.

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Hon. C. Z. Tawengwa, and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Felix Mhona graced the occasion.

The 3km stretch, which connects High Glen Road – vital for linking the south-western suburbs of Harare to the rest of the city – with the main industrial area, is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. The road also serves as a crucial link for residents of Glen Norah C and surrounding neighborhoods.

The newly opened road is expected to improve connectivity and accessibility and reduce traffic congestion around Fidelity residential area.

Speaking at the event, Minister Tawengwa emphasized the government’s commitment to completing all infrastructure development projects, citing the importance of a world-class road network in achieving Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030.

Minister Mhona provided an update on the progress of the Mbudzi Interchange, a mega project featuring 15 bridges, with 13 at the main structure, currently at deck level.

Upon completion, the interchange will provide a smooth flow of transport connecting Masvingo Highway to the CBD and Chitungwiza Road.

The ministers urged the public to appreciate and support the government’s efforts in infrastructure development, while also emphasizing the importance of adhering to road rules and regulations to reduce traffic accidents and respect the value of life.

The opening of the Glen Norah loop road and progress of Mbudzi Interchange demonstrate the government’s commitment to developing Zimbabwe’s infrastructure, a critical component of the country’s economic growth and development.
