Dynamos and Warriors legend George Mastermind Shaya has died at the age of 77.

Shaya died in the early hours of today at his Glen Norah home in Harare.

Known for his consistency and passion for the game, Shaya was named “Rhodesian Soccer Star of the Year” at the inaugural award in 1969.

He would go on to win the same award in 1972, 1975, 1976 and 1977, a record which stands unscathed to date.

Considered to be the greatest Zimbabwean footballer ever to life, Shaya joined Dynamos FC when he was just 16 extolling himself with each outing.

Shaya’s passing comes two weeks after the premiere of his documentary in Bulawayo.

Leading up to his death, Shaya had been battling ill health.

In 2014 Shaya was diagnosed with dementia which tampered with his memory to the extent of him failing to remember some details about his life.

In 2019, Shaya had his left leg amputated at Parirenyatwa Hospital. The leg was infected by an undisclosed disease.
