Nyanga – In an unwavering show of unity and solidarity between the the two neighboring nations, the Chairperson of FRELIMO in Zimbabwe, Cde Araujo Mafupe, addressed hundreds of Mozambican nationals living in Nyanga District. The rally aimed to galvanize support for Frelimo’s presidential candidate, Cde Daniel Francisco Chapo, ahead of the October 9th elections.
FRELIMO is Mozambique’s ruling political party and a sister party to Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU PF.
The campaign rally, held at the Nyanga Country Club, saw Cde Mafupe highlighting the strong historical bonds between Mozambique and Zimbabwe, dating back to the pre-liberation war era. Cde Mafupe described the two nations as “twins”. He emphasized the significance of the two nations’ relationship, which has seen them provide mutual support during times of need. During Zimbabwe’s liberation war period, Mozambique offered material and technical support, as well as bases from which the struggle was launched. In reciprocation, Zimbabwe deployed military personnel and resources to assist Mozambique during its civil war in the 1980s.
Cde Mafupe expressed gratitude to Zimbabwe’s President, His Excellency Cde ED Mnangagwa, for permitting Frelimo to campaign within the country and for facilitating the voting process for the Mozambican diaspora.
The campaign activities are scheduled to continue until October 6th, culminating in a major rally at the ZANU PF Headquarters.
This rally marks a significant step in FRELIMO’s efforts to mobilize support among the Mozambican community living in Zimbabwe, as the party gears up for the crucial elections. With the strong show of solidarity and support from Zimbabwe, FRELIMO is confident of securing a strong victory in the upcoming polls.
