Fatal bus accident claims 7
Seven people died while several others were injured when a Beitbridge-bound bus belonging to Jastro Tours burst its right front tyre and overturned at the 31-kilometre peg along Kwekwe – Gokwe Road.
The accident happened in the late hours of Saturday night and police are yet to ascertain the number of people who were on board.
National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said passengers were Messina-bound.
“I can confirm that 7 people died when a Jastro Tours bus was involved in a fatal road accident along the Kwekwe-Gokwe road.
“One of the accident victims died upon admission at Kwekwe Hospital.
“The accident happened between 5 pm on Saturday,” he said.
He said the bus had Messina-bound passengers and that police are yet to assess the scene and those who have been rushed to the hospital.
“Police are still conducting investigations and assessing the scene of the accident to establish leads that might have led to the accident.
“We are yet to ascertain the number of people who were on board and those who have been injured,” he said.
Ass Comm Nyathi has urged bus drivers to exercise caution and reduce speed when travelling at night to safeguard human lives.
“Drivers should avoid speeding, regularly service tyres, and reduce the load on worn-out tyres,” he said.
