When Zalerah Makari, the newly elected ZANU PF Member of Parliament for Epworth spoke to President Mnangagwa yesterday, among the issues she raised were water challenges faced in her constituency.
Immediately, President Mnangagwa sprung into action.
He issued an instruction that was immediately implemented.
“Yesterday, your MP (Makari) told me that there is a struggle for water in Epworth. I have four Presidential borehole drilling rigs, three that are in Harare and one in Binga.
So yesterday around 6pm I called the team running the scheme and I told them of this event, I told them that they should spend the night drilling one borehole. I am proud to say by this morning they had completed drilling the borehole and installing the whole system,” said President Mnangagwa.
Prevail Borehole drilling, the company tasked with the role of drilling boreholes for the Presidential borehole scheme in Harare went on the ground almost immediately.
Engineer Tyanai Jaure, who led the team said they burnt the midnight oil putting together.
“We worked from around 8pm and we were done at around 6 am. We drilled the borehole, installed pipes, tanks, the solar system and taps that the community will draw water from.
We also fenced the place within the time,” said Engineer Jaure.
The response by President Mnangagwa is in contention for the quickest intervention by a head of state to a concern raised by a community.
To show that the process was well thought out, President Mnangagwa pledged two boreholes per ward.
“It will take time to solve water challenges, because there are structural issues which need to be taken care of. But in the meantime, we will put two boreholes in each of the seven wards in Epworth,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa conceded that there is need for a lasting solution to the water challenges facing people in Epworth.
President Mnangagwa also opened Mabvazuva Satellite Clinic in Epworth Ward 7 which is meant to take the pressure off Epworth Clinic, which is due to be upgraded to a District Hospital.
