The ruling party, ZANU PF has finished restructuring its ranks from cell to the Central Committee.
Held yesterday, the election exercise was aimed at selecting 223 members of the highest decision making body in the party outside congress.
ZANU-PF being a behemoth powerhouse, thanks to its structures and mass appeal has managed to show its constitutionalism and transparency.
This is a rare sight in local politics, as most opposition parties have either chaotic or non-existent structures.
Anchoring on President Mnangagwa`s call for fair play and for the Central Committee elections to be a race of numbers and not seniority or rank, some figures who played prominent roles in the party`s history entered the race.
One particular example is Cde Lewis Matutu, former National Youth Affairs Secretary who was part of the mutinous panel that was led by Godfrey Tsenengamu.
Unlike Tsenengamu who went on to refuse disciplinary measures and reorientation at Herbert Chitepo Schoool of Ideology, Cde Matutu walked the path of redemption.
Matutu`s replacement after being fired from youth boss position, Deputy Secretary for Security in the Politburo Cde Tendai Chirau also joined the race without the boost of party rank or seniority, however did not emerge victorious.
Testament of the people’s will being supreme in the Revolutionary Party, ZANU-PF.
Popular names formerly known in the show business like the Boxing legend Cde Stalin Maumau, media mogul Cde Supa Mandiwanzira, and business mogul Cde James Makamba also emerged victorious in their respective Zones.
New faces in mainstream politics like the Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncube are likely to solidify their administrative positions from not only being nomination based but also supported by their political positions in the Party.
Former ZANU-PF Masvingo Provincial Chairman and Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Ezra Chadzamira also rose back from the ashes winning a place on the Central Committee.
Returning politicians who fell off the tracks during the 2015 Mujuru power shakedown and the dawn of the Second Republic also made a come back during these elections.
One being former Minister of Environment and Tourism and Member of Parliament for Shurugwi Cde Francis Nhema.
The Party North Star Constants also found their way into the central committee with old horses such as Cde Tshinga Dube, Cde Ce Joshua Sacco, Cde Maina Mandava and Cde Joseph Chinotimba, coming out victorious in their respective zones.
Results have not yet been officially announced by ZANU-PF Headquarters, but judging from the information that is coming in from the provinces, the dynamics have not worked as they traditionally used to in these just ended elections, the unexpected happened and a whole new era in the party’s highest structures has just began.
A number of rising stars have also earned themselves seats on the high table of ZANU PF politics.
Youthful leaders such as Cde Matutu, Ex-Officio Cde Mabuto Moyo and Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Cde Jenfen Muswere, who all emerged victorious in the Central Committee elections nullified past false rhetoric of opposition being the only space where the young get to lead.
