The ruling party ZANU PF has promised Harare residents that none of the 390 homes along the roads to be repaired and widened under phase two of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP2) will be demolished before the completion of replacement properties.
Barely a week after Harare Metropolitan Province Minister of State and Devolution Affairs Oliver Chidawu made a promise to the homeowners that they will not be moved arbitrarily, ZANU-PF Harare Provincial Secretary for Administration Cde Ephraim Fundukwa has reiterated the same.
This comes after reports have been made by residents of Harare South that there were individuals moving around impersonating Harare City Council workers telling residents with houses built on the road servitude that they had 48 hours to vacate before their homes get demolished.
During an address at Mutsubvu meeting point in Harare South on Sunday, Cde Fundukwa urged home owners to embrace ERRP2, as it was meant for the city and country`s collective benefit.
He urged them to ignore conmen masquerading as council employees who are coming up with random deadlines with the goal of tarnishing the country`s image in the presence of the UN Special Rapporteur on Negative Impact of Unilateral Coercive Measures on Human Rights, Alena Douhan.
“There has been no other official communication from the local authority and the office of the Minister of State and Devolution Affairs since the assurance that demolitions are suspended until relocation logistics have been finalized.
The detractors of the momentum that ERRP2 has gathered are envious of the targets the Second Republic has achieved. That is why they are trying to trigger alarm and despondency and create chaos which feeds to their Anti-Zimbabwe agenda,” said Cde Fundukwa.
Also present at the meeting was ZANU-PF Youth League National Secretary for Production and Labour Cde Christine Taruwona.
Cde Taruwona told the residents that the women and youths had more to benefit from the ERRP2 through employment and job opportunities.
“When the roads are being rehabilitated women and youths will actively partake in the development. Job opportunities and employment will be created for locals.
Women and youths with different enterprises are encouraged to formalize their businesses so they can supply goods and services that support the project,” said Cde Taruwona.
She said this empowerment drive is in response to the call made by DCC 4 Youth Chairman Cde Takura Madziya for youths to formalize their businesses.
ZANU-PF Central Committee member Cde Gijima was also presen during the address and he welcomed the message on relocations before demolitions
“As residents of Harare South we embraced the development. ERRP2 initiative is a tangible symbol of the President Emmerso Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of a Zimbabwean Upper Middle income economy class,” said Cde Godfrey Gijima.
He also reassured residents that the President walks the talk and through ERRP2 the community will benefit from the road rehabilitation
