Don’t fish in the basket – ruling party tells affiliates

Today, the ruling ZANU PF hosted over 100 organisations who are pledging their support to the party in the forthcoming elections.
In recent times, professionals and tradesmen across sectors, throwing their weight behind the economic development trajectory being led by President Mnangagwa.
This afternoon at the ZANU PF headquarters, they showed face and it was a carnival of diversity.
The crowd had people of Rastafari, Muslim, Christian, Indegenous Churches, African Traditional Religion disposition, among others.
White Collar, Blue Collar and Self Employed Entrepreneurial communities were also in attendance.
Amongst them were long time affiliates like Veterans Association, ZILWACO Trust, ZIPEDRA, ZNYSGA, ZICOSU.
New affiliates that have emerged, registering under the ‘FOR ED’ banner which has swept across the country like a veld fire.
Some of them include Single Mothers 4ED, Soccer Players 4ED, Vafambi 4ED, Graduates 4ED, Ama2k 4ED, Senior Citizens 4ED, National Mourners and Fan Club, Driving Schools 4ED, Vendors 4ED and many others.
Speaking at the meeting, ZANU-PF National Commissar Cde Mike Bimha told new affiliates to regularise their associations in order to be formerly recognised by the party.
“Usually we would have required that any Association or organisation that wishes to be an affiliate of the ruling party ZANU-PF, first apply through the National Secretary for Administration’s office.
However, we are faced with the reality that there are so many groupings who share a commonality apart from being passionate about the party and accept their enthusiasm.
Nevertheless, it is imperative that all of your organisations apply, and go through the procedure,” said Cde Bimha.
Affiliates were also told to abide by party ethos, Ideology and to compliment party efforts through recruitment of non-Party members and not to Fish from the Basket.
“We expect the affiliates to then embark on serious mobilisation of new party members and new voters to secure a resounding unquestionably win in 2023 Harmonised elections.
We can’t have you fishing your members from the party itself because you will be misleading the party,” he added.
Cde Bimha said the meeting was long overdue.
The Goal was to get familiar with the plethora of affiliates and to orient them in order to reduce duplicity of numbers which might mislead the party into assuming they have the multitudes.
He also called for affiliates to each have a constitution and a plan of action on how they will operate.
A follow up meeting will be done to assess them all on their performance in mobilising towards 2023 plebiscite
In his closing remarks, Chairman of the War Veterans Association Cde Vincent Mahiya told attendants not to target material gains from the party.
“We must not be driven by materialism as the party needs selfless and committed members.
Our affiliates are not mechanisms to get money from, their sole purpose is to complement the party in mobilising for the 2023 elections,” he said.
