District Agricultural show officially opens -Chivi District
The District Agricultural show officially roared to life in Chivi District yesterday with an increase in exhibitors from different sectors.
In attendance was the DDC Mberengwa, Mr Hlabati, Assistant DDC Zvishavane, the Masvingo Provincial head ARDAS, and several representatives from different seed houses.
The main thrust of the agricultural show is to encourage farmers to take traditional grains considering Chivi falls under natural regions 4 and 5, experiencing dry spells. Climate resistance crops, especially in Chivi.
Government’s focus is for specific crops to grow, considering each district’s ecological region. Agro Ecological tillage is also the main focus for the 2023 -2024 planting season.
Speaking at the District Agricultural Show, Mr Hlabati said farmers are encouraged to visit GMB depot and exchange their crops.
“If one would need maize, he or she can exchange with rapoko. However, such a facility should not be abused.
“Some of the traditional crops grown in Chivi. For the district to be food secure, traditional crops such as rapoko and millet should be grown in Chivi. Pfumvudza has also proved to be the best farming practice, especially in our district of Chivi.”
