The Department of Disability Affairs in the Ministry of Public Service Labour and Social Welfare held a meeting yesterday with people living disability at Harare Polytechnic College.

The purpose of the meeting was to sensitise them about government facilities and programs designed to benefit everyone, including them. This is in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.

“In June 2021, the government enacted the National Disability Policy and also that a Disability Bill is currently before the parliament in a bid to promote the rights of the disabled people.”

She also talked about the Ruwa National Rehabilitation Centre, where 16 courses, including carpentry, horticulture, computers, and motor vehicle maintenance, are offered for free to people living with disability.

Dr. Peta condemned drug and substance abuse, which has become prevalent among the youths. She implored the gathering not to engage in drug abuse in order to avoid mental disability and high-risk sexual activities.

She also emphasised that people with disability have a role to play in the development of the nation.
