Zimbabwean international defender Tendai Darikwa has been named as the Wigan Athletic captain for the 2021/2022 season.

Darikwa joined the Latics in January this year, coming from Nottingham Forest.

The 29 year old is a regular for the Zimbabwe national team and has personalized the wingback position.

“We can confirm that Tendayi Darikwa is the Wigan Athletic captain for the 2021/22 season, with Max Power and Jamie Jones forming the Club’s leadership team as vice-captain and Club Captain,” the club said in a statement.

Wigan are optimistic that the new responsibility will bring the best out of the right back.

“With over 200 appearances in English football, and having worked with manager Leam Richardson before at Chesterfield, the new Latics skipper will look to lead the Club into a successful new era,” further read the statement.
