Cross border bus robbed

Passengers travelling aboard an MBT bus from South Africa were last night robbed of cash by three armed robbers on the 186 peg along the Masvingo-Harare Road.

The 66 passengers were last night robbed of R167 050 and $7367 after three men, who had disguised themselves as genuine travellers in the same bus, suddenly drew out pistols and started shooting at passengers before searching them one-by-one.

According to police the incident occured at the 186km peg along the Harare-Masvingo Highway near Mvuma town around 11pm yesterday.

Three passengers, including the bus driver a Mr Lazarous Mungadzi, were injured.

One female passenger whose name was withheld and was shot in the chest, is reportedly in a critical condition at Gweru Provincial Hospital.

National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was still to gather the details.

The robbery was reported at Mvuma Police Station.
