A health emergency is looming in Shamva where a pharmacy at Shamva District Hospital with over two thousand doses of the vaccine, and drugs were burnt in the early hours of today.
According to Chaminuka Rural District Council Chairperson Nevson Zvizhinji, Shamva Mine rescue team managed to put out their fire with the assistance of City of Harare Fire Brigade.
“I can confirm that the fire destroyed the hospital pharmacy. The Shamva rescue team fought to put out the fire and were later joined by the City of Harare Fire Brigade,” said Mr Zvizhinji.
Mr White Nkoma, the Shamva District Development Coordinator said the mishap is a loss to the Shamva District, since the hospital is serving as referral centre for 18 health centres covering a population of 123 000 people.
