The COVID-19 third wave continues to hit Zimbabwe hard as now the number of deaths are nearly encroaching the three thousand threshold.
Yesterday, the country noted another record high of 61 deaths bringing the cumulative number of deaths to 2870.
With the rate at which the country has been recording these high number of deaths, we are expected to pass the three thousand threshold by end of this week, if things do not take a miraculous turn.
The number of new COVID-19 positive cases are not reducing either, as yesterday saw 2301 new cases recorded bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 93421.
Despite the continuous surge in numbers, there is light at the end of the tunnel as there has been a positive turnout in the vaccination program.
According to the daily Covid-19 reports from the Ministry of Health and Child care, “Yesterday alone saw 59872 people receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This brings the cumulative number of people that have received their first dose to 1352514. A total of 664587 have now received their second dose with 7757 having received it yesterday.”
This positive news is; in line with the one million mark that was set in motion which will see one million people receive their first dose by the end of the extended two week lockdown.
In light of the positive responses to the vaccination call, the Government has highlighted that they have now expedited their acquisition of COVID-19 vaccines as the country will expect an additional 500000 doses anytime now.
The public is still encouraged to strictly adhere to the lockdown measures for their own safety.
