The Harare City Council has cleared the air on the demolition of the perimeter wall at the world classt Milton Park Medical Centre in Harare.

During the day, a video circulated showing a wall being taken down.

As usual, there was outrage.

Others questioned the legality of such an act by the city council.

TateguruTv reached out to the Council’s Spokesperson, Michael Chideme to fully understand the reasons behind the demolition.

When asked if the reports and video circulating was indeed true, Chideme said;

“Yes I can confirm, the Harare City Council removed part of the perimeter wall at that hospital at Milton Park. The reason being that the hospital had encroached on to the council’s servitude. So council was simply putting its bylaws at work.

So it’s council’s by laws that were being made operational. There is nothing amiss in as far as council is concerned in terms of what it did.”

Chideme denied that the council had received any form of payment when the Milton Park Medical Centre was initially constructed the encroaching parameters

“We would be very glad to have sight of the receipts that we were paid for that. But, if a contractor or a buider or owner of a property encroaches onto council’s servitude, council has no choice but to enforce it’s bylaws. We are simply enforcing our bylaws,” said Chideme.
