People gathered at Kandana Village in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South Province to pay their last respects to the late Chief Kandana, on Saturday 7 September.
The traditional funeral was attended by Bulilima MP, Hon Dingumuzi Phuthi, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu and Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Dr. Evelyn Ndlovu, representing Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Hon Daniel Garwe.
All five Chiefs of Bulilima were present along with dignitaries that included National Council of Chiefs President, Chief Matshana Khumalo, Vice President of the National Council of Chiefs, Sen. Charumbira, Chief Tshitaudze from Beitbridge and Chief Ndube from Insiza.
The ceremony featured poems, songs and eulogies from prominent figures who remembered Chief Kandana for his wisdom, kindness, dedication and patience. Chief Kandana was also described as a leader whose efforts towards developing rural communities were vital. He was applauded as a visionary leader who promoted sound local governance and spearhead community projects.
The late Chief Kandana is survived by his wife, Simeleni Dube, two children and three grandchildren.
