In a renewed show of confidence in Victoria Falls as a tourist destination, British Airways Franchisee Comair is resuming direct flights from Johannesburg into the tourism city today.
The airline suspended the flight in March 2020 as a response to the complication brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement, Comair said it is excited to be retracing one of its most lucrative routes.
“Comair will be resuming it’s operation in Victoria Falls ( JHB-VFA-JHB) on the 13th of May 2021…
And please take note, tickets will be as cheap as US$192 return to Johannesburg. So take the opportunity to experience the Hospitality of BA/Comair,” said Comair in a statement, which included a detailed introductory flight schedule.
The airline is targeting June 1 2021 as a day for return of daily flights between the two cities.
Tourism players welcomed the development saying the resurgence of the tourism industry is now in full speed.
Ms Yvonne Jandles of Routes Through Africa Tours was overjoyed by this development which she hopes will inspire other airlines to start flying again into the iconic seventh Wonder of the world.
“This is a very welcome development and long awaited as access to the destination is key to any recovery efforts. A few operators are fully booked in the next few days and no doubt this coincides with the arrival of this flight. We pray that other airlines will follow suit.
Tourism players are very excited and will be at the airport to welcome this flight,” she told Tateguru Tv.
This development comes hot on the heels of another successful launch of Botswana based Mack Air’s maiden flight on a brand new international route between Kasane in Botswana and Victoria Falls City.
On March 24, 2021, President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched an ambitious program to vaccinate all residents of the resort City in a spirited endeavour to revive the fortunes of tourism in the city and the nation at large.
Buoyed by an overwhelming response by residents of the town, Victoria Falls City became the first in the region to achieve the much coveted herd immunity against the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
This points to positive prospects for the country`s tourism industry, which is one of the biggest foreign currency earners.
