Chitungwiza local authority has paid condolences to late Warriors star, Misheck Chidzambwa who passed away last week.

Chidzambwa was the first captain in independent Zimbabwe who won a major trophy in national colours.

He was also the first coach to win the COSAFA Cup in 2000.

In a statement, Chitungwiza Mayor Lovemore Maiko said the dormitory town has lost a local hero.

“Chidzambwa, who stayed in Chitungwiza raising its flag high became a great player in the football fraternity, playing for the country`s biggest club, Dynamos Football Club and the national team, which he also captained,” said Maiko.

Maiko said football in Zimbabwe has lost an important figure, who will be hard to replace.

“The Zimbabwe football fraternity is going to be poorer without his expertise and contribution. He left an indelible mark in the football arena,” said Maiko.

There has been a dark cloud in Zimbabwean football, this death comes a few days after another legendary coach David Mandigora died.
