Information, Broadcasting and Publicity Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa is set to officiate the official opening of Chimanimani Community Radio Station on September 27.
This was shared at a recent meeting held among key stakeholders on launch preparations.
Delegates from the Ministry of information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Unesco, Zimpapers and Chimanimani radio station board members met to discuss final launch preparations.
During the meeting, Provincial Information Officer, Mr Itai Dhliwayo highlighted that Monica Mutsvangwa and Minister of ICT Postal and Courier Services Dr Jenfan Muswere will officiate the event.
The two Ministers are expected to hand over the radio station equipment to the radio station board members.
Chimanimani radio station chairperson Mrs Mercy Sacco said the fruition of a community radio station is a welcome prospect for Chimanimani.
Mrs Sacco clarified that although there is a limit of numbers in gatherings as expressed by Government, there is a chance that the numbers may end up exceeding the marked threshold.
“This is a crucial event to the Chimanimani community. In fact people have been waiting for this event long overdue,” said Mrs Sacco.

Community radio stations are one of the second republic`s major reform points, as Government saw it fit to allow communities to have radio stations whose content they collectively control and own.
One of the major advantages of community radio stations is relatability and nuance, for a community that is healing from Cyclone Idai, Chimanimani is set to derive benefits from this facility.
