Chevrons inspire Presidential humour

The Chevrons today managed an against the odds victory against highly regarded Pakistan in today`s T20 Cricket World Cup Super-12 match.
Before the match, many Zimbabweans had resigned to fate, praying for a respectable defeat.
However, the prayers and invocation of cricket countries across the country and in the diaspora must have hit the right notes as Zimbabwe mounted a spirited chase to beat the team ranked fourth in T20 cricket by one run.
Zimbabwe scored 138 – 8, while Pakistan at its labored best scored 129-8.
The victory sent the country into celebrations, not even the First Citizen was spared.
After the victory, President Mnangagwa congratulated the team, making reference to an event in 2016 where a fake Mr Paak Bean, Rowan Atkinson look alike was brought and paraded in Harare.
“What a win for Zimbabwe! Congratulations to the Chevrons. Next time, send the real Mr Bean…#PakvsZim 🇿🇼”— President of Zimbabwe (@edmnangagwa wrote on his Twitter.
The tweet has since gone viral, reigniting debate on Mr Paak Bean and the time he visited the country.
Pakistani Prime Minister responded to President Mnangagwa, congratulating the Chevrons in a flash of executive humour.
“We may not have the real Mr Bean but we have real cricketing spirit… and we Pakistanis have a funny habit of bouncing back. Mr President Congratulations, your team really played well today,” Pakistan Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif wrote in response to President Mnangagwa`s trip.
Zimbabweans are starting to fancy their chances of pulling a surprise and walking away with the T20 World Cup.
With the recent performances, such hopes are not far-fetched.
Zimbabwe plays India in the next match, in what is set to be the country`s biggest test at the tourney.
