Late national hero, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo has been buried at the National Heroes Acre.

Cde Moyo was buried this afternoon at an emotional ceremony, which saw him being described as a committed patriot and a man of virtue.

President Mnangagwa described Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, as a true patriot, freedom fighter and a versatile cadre who contributed to the liberation and development of Zimbabwe.

Cde Moyo succumbed to cancer at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo at the age of 76.

“He was not easily angered, and joyed in the truth. Let us unite as a nation to build the Zimbabwe we want, brick by brick, stone by stone,” President Mnangagwa said

“The late National Hero, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo will go down in the history of our beloved country as a patriotic, consistent and persistent national and revolutionary leader who played an indelible part in our liberation struggle”

 

“Our culture of non-violence and peace; along with our values of unity, love and respect must continue to be the fundamental building blocks that distinguish us as a people and as a nation,” President Mnangagwa added.

Cde Khaya Moyo was declared a national hero in recognition of his contribution to the liberation and development of the country before and after independence.

At the tail end of his speech, President Mnangagwa urged citizens to continue complying with the COVID-19 protocols.

“As we approach the festive season, I call upon you, fellow countrymen and women, to continue complying to the World Health Organization public health protocols, guidelines and procedures for containing the COVID-19 pandemic” said President Mnangagwa.”
