Cattle rustlers have caused havoc in Ward 24, Mutoko District, leaving farmers in the Hoyuyu resettlement area counting significant losses.

In a brazen attack on Thursday, October 17, 2024, a group of rustlers targeted plots belonging to Mr. Chikandeka, Mr. Homera, and Masarirevhu. The criminals stole and slaughtered a total of six cattle, taking two oxen from each property.

The rustlers appear to be primarily motivated by sustenance, as they only removed the legs of the slaughtered animals, leaving the remaining carcasses behind.

These brazen acts of theft pose a significant threat to the livelihoods of local farmers, who rely on their livestock for both meat and draught power, particularly during the upcoming farming season. The incidents also undermine government efforts to increase the national cattle herd.

Authorities are currently investigating the matter and have yet to apprehend the perpetrators.
