The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has said that it will engage stakeholders and make a review on the Continous Assessment Learning Activity (CALA) curriculum.

This was said by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Evelyn Ndlovu during the National Association of Primary Heads conference that took place in Victoria Falls.

“As you are all aware, our curriculum has run it’s course, that is from 2015 to 2022 and it is now up for review. Shortly the ministry will involve all stakeholders in the country for their input,” said Minister Ndlovu

Although CALA is an excellent way of assessing the learners, parents and guardians have over the years been calling for the scrapping for its scrapping citing its inconvenience to both learners and themselves given the costs involved in some of them.

Cynthia Khumalo, the Head of Chinotimba Primary School in Victoria Falls proposed that CALA projects for Grade Six learners be scrapped as the are burdening students with too much work.

“At University, only one project is produced and we suggest that once component per subject is enough starting at Grade 7 level,” added Mrs Khumalo.

This year’s National Association Primary Heads Conference was held under the theme “Facing the Future in the New Norma.”
