The Harare City Council has announced a hike in street parking charges with effect from June 1, 2022.
“This notice serves to inform the motoring public that, on the street parking tariff in Harare Central Business District (CBD) has been adjusted. The adjustments are with effect from the 1st of June 2022.”
In a statement, City Parking, a Harare City Council-owned company responsible for administering all parking spaces in the city that said the fees will go up to ZWS$300 per hour from ZWS$190.
However, motorists who park for longer durations are encouraged to make use of the safe , secure and affordable City Parkades and parking lots. Motorists are advised to pay parking fees to avoid tow-aways and clamping which can cause inconveniences.
While others feel that the parking fee hike has been too steep, others believe that the fees should be deterrent as to the extent of discouraging long term parking as a way to reduce congestion in the city.
