Highlanders Football Club has condemned the hooligan and violent protests done by their supporters during the match with Dynamos FC this weekend
“The club condemns the unsporting behaviour that negatively profiles Zimbabwean Football as a brand.
It is sad to witness such ugly scenes as a family sport event, especially at a time when the club, together with other stakeholders are working tirelessly to bring fans back into the stadiums and convincing the Cooperate world that sport in general and football in particular is worthy their support.
We would like to apologise to all our stakeholders, particularly our sponsors, partners and innocent Football loving fans who wers affected by the acts of a few selfish individuals who care less about the growth of their clubs and Football in general. We also pray for those who were injured and wish them a speedy recovery,” read the statement made by Club Executives.
The highly anticipated match between Dynamos and Highlanders was abandoned in the 38th minutes due to pitch invasion by Highlanders fans.
The invasion by Highlanders fans was in protest of a penalty that was not awarded to them after their striker was brought down by Dynamos defender. But the ref waved a play on much to the disapproval of Highlanders fans who responded by throwing missiles and invading the pitch.
Dynamos were leading by two goals to nil thanks to goals from Keith Madera and Captain Frank Makarati.
Dynamos were the better side in the first half with midfielders Mudadi and Junior Makunike controlling the midfield for the home side.
Dynamos took the lead in the 2nd minute through Keith Madera who slotted home a cross from Midfielder Madera.
The second goal came in the 30th minute from Captain Makarati a header which gave no chance to Highlanders goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda.
Bosso’s strike force launched a relentless attack as they search for equaliser conceding three coner kicks in a short space of time but found the Dynamos defence Solid.
The match was stopped in the 38th minute as Bosso fans threw missiles and invaded the pitch after they felt the referee had denied them a penalty.
