The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday arrested Bikita Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer Peter Chibi for unauthorised expenditure.
Chibi is said to have bought six Toyota GD6 single cabs with council loans but then registered the vehicles in the names of six council executives.
The vehicles were bought for a total of USD222 000.
Bikita residents alarmed the Government through a written petition through the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Ezra Chadzamira.
“The accused, without Ministerial approval in the exercise of his function entered into a contract with the African Century Limited which bound the council to future financial commitment,” said ZACC in a memo.
The company paid USD191 000 plus interest USD30 900.
The vehicles were registered in the names of the Rural Council officers; Engineer, Planner, Executive Officer Finance, Executive Officer Community and Social Services, Executive Officer Administration and Human Resources and Internal Auditor.
