A high powered delegation led by Transport and Infrastructure Development Permanent Secretary Engineer Theodius Chinyanga and his Local Government and Public Works counterpart Mr Zvinechimwe Churu toured Beitbridge border post, checking progress on the ongoing mordenisation works.
The technocrats were impressed with the works done at the phase one project which was recently completed.
It saw the construction of new terminals for human and vehicle traffic as well as construction of the new composite offices for all border agencies.
Call border agencies will be housed under one roof and all payments are going to be processed at a single window in order to facilitate effective border management and promote the easy of doing business at the country’s busiest port of entry and exit.
Zimborders Consortium has supplied free new office equipment for the new offices.
Consequently, all border agencies such as Zimra, Immigration, Zinara, ZRP are shifting to the new offices on Monday next week.
Phase two of the program is set to see the building of terminals for buses and private vehicles as well as construction of 220 staff houses and a giant water reservoir on top of a mountain.
President Mnangagwa is expected to officially commission the completed phase one of the project.
