Beitbridge Border Post Expansion Almost Complete

HARARE – Government has expressed satisfaction towards the ongoing road works and the Beitbridge Border Post upgrading saying the development will enhance trade and reduce congestion at the port of entry.

Addressing a post-cabinet media brief yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the project is progressing well.

“Under the Beitbridge Border Post Modernization project, landscaping and the cleaning of 120 housing units were completed, and the Department of Roads workshop, offices and houses are at 95 percent completion,” he said.

Meanwhile, the installation of elevators, baggage carousels and escalators on the North and South wings of the International Terminal Building at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport has reached 70 percent of completion.

On the roadside, the construction and upgrading of 25 kilometres of a section of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Road to regional standards is above 60 percent completion, with 3 km already opened to traffic.

“The construction of the Mbudzi Interchange has reached 37 percent of completion and the construction of 10 kilometres on the upgrading project for the Harare-Kanyemba road has reached 38 percent,” she said.

Government initiated the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme 2 (ERRP2) to rehabilitate the country’s roads which were adversely affected by heavy rains.
