A Nkayi farmer on June 19 2022 who accidentally poisoned his cattle after mistaking maize pesticide for cattle medicine, has received a timely boost after sympathetic souls decided to assist him and his family to manage the losses.

The incident which occurred in Ward 28, at Nhlekisa Village has left the whole country talking.
Mr Orderly Mpofu received some maize pesticide in the form of pills from his son who stays in Bulawayo through his daughter.

Mr Mpofu assumed that the pills were for the cattle and had sick livestock, he did not hesitate to put all the pills into the water for his 24 beasts.
The 21 cattle which drank the water died immediately.

In a moving show of Ubuntu, well-wishers who are farmers from Matebeleland North and South provinces, donated 16 cattle and as of yesterday, Mr Mpofu had received 13 cattle, 12 heifers and 1 bull.
Transport to ferry the cattle from Bulawayo to Nkayi was donated by Thobela transport.
Furthermore, 3 bags of cattle feed and livestock medicine were donated.

Councilor for Ward 28, One Ncube and some village headman were present for the handing over of cattle to Mr Mpofu.
