Be diligent in serving communities, Rural District Councils urged

Rural District Councils have been urged to apply themselves diligently in the service delivery mandate that is bestowed upon and expected from them by local communities.

Presiding over the recently held Mashonaland West Business Engagement meeting which was hosted by the Sanyati Rural District Council at Kadoma Cotton Training Centre yesterday, Minister of State for Mashonaland West Province Mary Mliswa Chikoka reminded Rural District Councils that they remain accountable to surrounding communities.

“Zimbabwe is open for business. You are the city fathers, the community is in your jurisdiction and you make the decisions for the community, have a heart for people and honour your responsibility of providing service delivery to them for a conducive business environment, ” said Mliswa Chikoka.

The engagement which presented a platform for a productive two way communication, saw community leaders and representatives present their challenges in different business sectors while responsible Ministries responded with answers through their representatives.

The local business community raised various concerns which include exorbitant tariffs, cost and availability of commercial stands. Most notable of their concerns was the tarrifs being charged by Rural Councils which they contend are at par with those charged by urban councils, yet a gulf exists in service provision between the two settings.

In view of the concerns raised, Honourable Mliswa Chikoka urged the Sanyati Rural District Council to revisit all issues raised with a view to addressing them for the sake of the growth of the business sector in line with the President’s vision,
