Bangladesh clutch at last straw, fights to avoid whitewash

Bangladesh yesterday fought hard to avoid a One Day International series whitewash in the hands of the in-form Chevrons.
The last of the three matches, played between the two teams at Harare Sports Club saw Bangladesh beating Zimbabwe with 105 runs.
Had Zimbabwe won, they would have broken a 21-year whitewash jinx.
However, half-centuries from Afif Hossain and Anamul Haque, the Chevrons restricted Bangladesh to 256 for 9 in the third ODI, ensuring they had a smaller target to chase than the first two matches.
In addition, a top and middle order collapse destroyed any chance of a whitewash.
The highlight of the day was still to come as Richard Ngarava and Victor Nyauchi put up a record 10th wicket partnership for Zimbabwe.
The two bowlers got together with the score at 83 for nine and put up 68 runs before Mustafi Rahman grabbed the final wicket.
All in all, Ngarava and Nayauchi’s efforts saw them being the 10th best wicket partnership of all time in world cricket.
After winning both the T20 and the ODI series, the Chevrons are only seeing positives.
“The amount if youngsters we managed to okay in this series and getting wins puts us in good standing ahead of other assignments. Individual scores have also been wonderful. I think this has just been a series of positives and we need to build on that,” said Sikander Raza, the Chevrons captain said.
Meanwhile, the Chevrons now focusing on the Indian series which will kick off next week with the Asian side who are expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Saturday.
