Three armed robbers were arrested in Bulawayo on Monday morning following a dramatic shootout with police along Luveve Road.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, stating,
“We can confirm that the ZRP arrested three men following a shootout with the police in Bulawayo this morning. Investigations are underway, and we will provide more details.”
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in the theft of a Ford Ranger vehicle at a popular entertainment spot, KoChigumira, in Bulawayo last Wednesday.
The stolen vehicle was reportedly used in a series of robberies in Gwanda, where the suspects also exchanged gunfire with detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Although the suspects initially evaded capture during the Gwanda incident, police recovered the stolen vehicle and a firearm at the scene. The coordinated police efforts eventually led to their arrest along Luveve Road.
No injuries were reported during the confrontation, and the suspects are now in custody as investigations continue.
This arrest highlights growing concerns over a surge in armed robberies across Zimbabwe. In response, the ZRP has intensified its operations, pledging to dismantle criminal syndicates threatening public safety.
Commissioner Nyathi urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities, assuring citizens that law enforcement is committed to maintaining public security and ensuring swift justice.1
