The Hippodrome being built in Harare by the Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large to the Americas and Europe is progressing ahead of schedule, with indications that it may be complete earlier than initially envisaged.

The construction of the 6400 seater -which is set to be one of the biggest indoor conference centers in Africa – was set in motion by President Mnangagwa at a groundbreaking ceremony in April this year.

Reports say that 60 percent of the work is already done, despite the challenges presented by Covid-19.

Kingswood Contracting, the company tasked with the works at the site said the building can be in use end of year, although they are envisaging a handover in March next year.

The building is promising to be a state of the art Conference Center in Zimbabwe.

Currently, the noteworthy conference centres in Harare such as the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) and City Sports Centre have an average sitting capacity of 4500 each, hence making this the biggest in Zimbabwe.
