The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested Zanu PF youth league secretary for indigenisation and Affirmative Action Group (AAG) President Mike Chimombe along with two other men for allegedly violating Covid-19 regulations.

Chimombe and his friends reportedly hosted a public gathering (All-Black party) of 300 people at his House at  number 16 Stonechat Lane, Greystone Park, Borrowdale.

ZRP confirmed the arrest on their Twitter page saying;

“On August 6, 2021, Police in Harare arrested Mike Chimombe (40), Kudakwashe Chigodo (31) and Bruce Moyo (35) for violating Covid-19 regulations after they hosted a public gathering of 300 people from 2100 hours on 04/09/21 to 0330 hours on 05/09/21 at number 16 Stonechat Lane, Greystone Park, Borrowdale,”

This was against the prevailing level four lockdown regulations which limited the number of people per gathering to a maximum of 50.

Meanwhile, President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday relaxed the lockdown regulations from level four to level two with curfew hours being moved to between 2200hrs – 0530hrs. Business operating hours were adjusted to between 0800hrs – 1900hrs among other adjustments. However, bars, beer halls and nightclubs remain closed.

Mike Chimombe has been in the public eye since April this year when he was appointed president of the indigenous business lobby group Affirmative Action Group (AAG).

Members of the public are urged to avoid being caught on the wrong side of the law and to strictly adhere to the laid down lockdown measures.
