Alick Macheso hosts pre-album-birthday launch

Sungura Kingpin Alick Macheso popularly known as Baba Sharo, hosted an “Executive Night Out” at a local hotel on Thursday to pre launch his 12th album set for Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex this Friday, titled Tinosvitswa Nashe.
The event, which was attended by politicians, business executives and other captains of industry was massive show of support for the local music industry.
In a statement earlier on, Macheso posted:
“If you are not at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex on Friday you will have a lot to explain to your grandchildren when they request a historical account of this epic launch in years to come. Batika ipapo (be there).”
The Aquatic Complex gig is set to be a double delight for Macheso who will be celebrating his 54th birthday on the same day.
Macheso released yesterday the track list for the album titled “Tinosvitswa Nashe”.
The album carries such tracks as: Makazvinzwepi, Kutadzirana, Nzendo Dzirefu, Impfa Nimunandi, Ndimi Vanhu Vacho and Munhu Mumwe. Some of the musicians who are billed to perform at the launch are Freeman, Selmor Mtukudzi, Leonard Zhakata, Baba Harare, Andy Muridzo and Nicholas Zakaria.
The dinner was a red carpet affair with guests dressed accordingly. They also held an auction plus a listening session to the new album on certain songs.
During the auction, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation Hon. Machakaire bought the first CD for US$10 000 in honour of “Cheso Power” .
He tweeted, “I have known @alickmacheso3 for a very long time. In all my interactions with him, he is very humble and respectful. The CD that I purchased tonight goes beyond just paying for music but it is my token of appreciation to the Living Legend. May he live long !”
Macheso, whose band did not perform last night,is one of Zimbabwe’s top Sungura musicians of all times with a dozen albums under his belt.
He is an award winning guitarist, lyricist, and dancer, having rose to prominence in the early 1990s with his album ‘Magariro’ which carried the hit songs ‘Pakutema munda’ and ‘Baba namai’.
