South African registered premier airline, Airlink, yesterday launched direct scheduled flights connecting Harare and the South African Port city of Durban.

The inaugural flight touched down in Harare at exactly 1240hrs amid pomp and fanfare to mark the launch of the shortest and fastest way to connect Harare to Africa’s Premier shipping hub in the KwaZulu Natal Province.

“Harare and Durban are important commercial centres and key Airlink markets. This brand new route linking the two cities will be our third direct service to Zimbabwe’s capital, along with our flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town. We are certain that the new service will promote commerce and tourism between KwaZulu Natal and Zimbabwe,” said Airlink CEO and Managing Director, Robert Foster in a statement.

The Airline is expected to operate one of their modern Embraer ERJ135 regional Jet on the route.

Fares will be inclusive of 20kg free economy class check-in baggage allowance plus 15kg sporting equipment allowance.

At 2 hours 10 minutes, the flight, which launches from Durban daily, reduces travel time drastically and maximises productivity as business people can travel to Harare and back on the same day.

Harare’s fine weather and beautiful resorts make it a suitable transit destination for tourists and business travelers to any world destination.

With Airlink servicing 45 destinations in 13 Southern African countries, it makes of good tidings to the Zimbabwean tourism and investment environment as the country will benefit immensely from destination marketing experience of one of Africa’s most efficient and reliable airlines.
