Advocate Mabhiza Zimbabwe’s First Female Attorney General

Yesterday, President Emerson Mnangagwa made history by appointing Zimbabwe’s First Female Attorney General.
This was one of four high profile appointments made through the new Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya.
Mrs. Mabhiza has held the post of Secretary for Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs since 2013. She is a qualified legal practitioner who possesses vast experience in criminal and civil litigation.
Mrs. Mabhiza also served as Secretary for Constitutional affairs during the inclusive government where she was superintendent over the COPAC-led Constitution making and has represented the country at local regional and international fora on matters of justice.
Mrs Mabhiza assumes the role of Attorney General of Zimbabwe with effect from 1 November 2023
Other appointments made yesterday include; Dr Agnes Mahomva as the Public Health Advisor to the President and Cabinet with immediate effect, Honorable J.M. Gumbo as Special Advisor to His Excellency the President for Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes with immediate effect and Mr Mike Madiro as the Chairperson of the National Railways of Zimbabwe (Pvt) Limited Board with immediate effect.
