Action-packed ZIM at 41 Celebrations

Activities for this year’s Independence celebrations being held under the theme; ZIM@41 TOGETHER, GROWING THE ECONOMY FOR A PROSPEROUS, RESILIENT AND INCLUSIVE SOCIETY kick off today Friday, April 16, 2021.

The 41st Independence commemorations which are taking place in a climate of COVID-19 safety restrictions are starting with the National Attire Design Competition at Harare International Conference Centre. Today’s event where Provincial winners wi contest against each other for the award of best National Design is the culmination of the hard work and initiative by the First Lady, Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa, working with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Community and Small and Medium Enterprises Development.

In a first of its kind, and in the spirit of embracing ICT, there will be an ONLINE YOUTH BUSINESS FORUM taking place in Seven Chat-rooms. Different Ministers will be engaging the youths on youth interests in different sectors of the Economy. Details to enter the Chatrooms will be provided to different Youth Groups. But the chat-rooms are as follows:

Chatroom 1 – Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation – Hon Dr. K. Coventry

Chatroom 2 – Ministry of Women Affairs, Community Small and Medium Enterprises – Honourable Dr. S. Nyoni

Chatroom 3 – Ministry of Transport Communication and Infrastructure Development- Transport and Construction

Chatroom 4 – Ministry of Mines and Mining Development – Honourable W. Chitando

Chatroom 5 – Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, water, Climate and Rural Resettlement – Honourable Dr. AJ Masuka

Chatroom 6 – Ministry of Environment, Climate Change Tourism Hospitality Industry – Honourable M. Ndlovu

Chatroom 7 – Ministry of Industry and Commerce Manufacturing – Honourable SI Nzenza

The traditional Children’s Party makes a return to the calendar this year after being shelved last year due to COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
The Children’s Party is going to be held on the evening of the 17th of April 2021 at Statehouse in Harare. A total of 50 children comprising of 25 of each sex will come from all provinces and are expected in Harare by 14:00hrs. Strict measures will be in place to keep the children safe.
Meanwhile there will also be provincial parties happening across all provinces led by Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution.These will be held under strict World Health Organisation Covid-19 standard regulations.

President Emerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s landmark Independence interview will be screened on the ZTV and ZTN on the 17th of April 2021 at 2030 hours. The interview which touches on wide ranging issues will also be featured at the same time on National Radios and online platforms for our Diaspora audience

An Independence Virtual Musical Gala will be held on the eve of the Independence Day. This will avail citizens an opportunity to merry make, while in the safe confines of their homes. There will be repeats later on both Radio and TV.

To mark the end of the day will be the Independence Trophy Soccer match between two of the country’s football giants Dynamos FC and Highlanders FC. The two teams will battle it out for honours of the Independence Trophy at 13:00hrs at the National Sports Stadium. The match will be closed to the general public and once again only 50 Officials and Team members will be allowed. The Independence Trophy will be presented by Hon VP Dr CGDN Chiwenga, who will be the guest of honour. ZBC TV and Radio will cover the event live.
