Turning 100 is a feat not many people get to experience but a Gutu grandmother has done it in style.

Born on January 1, 1921, Gogo Chibhamu affectionately known as Mbuya va Jussy among the hordes of grand and great grand children as well as her own offspring, was treated to a lavish birthday party at Paradise Hotel Mupandawana in Gutu.

Gogo Chibhamu who bore 12 children mostly in sets of twins with the eldest now being 76 years old and the youngest 50, survived her husband, Tavarwisa Chibhamu who passed on in 2010 at the ripe age of 86 years. Their grand children now number 137.

Gogo Chibhamu whose home is in Bhasera, now stays with her eldest daughter who is 75 and her 86 year old son in-law in Makumbe, Gutu.

Speaking to TateguruTV, the super centurion revealed her secret learnt life which is found in her religious habit of praying to the lord. She says that she learnt earlier on in life to take good care of her health and respect towards others.

“Longevity between us as a couple was a gift sent from heaven and I greatly thank God for giving me this opportunity to live long enough to see the fifth generation from my womb,” said Gogo with her constant wide grin and a meek voice.

Her advice especially to the young generation who might want to emulate her feat for reaching a century is “Wait for your time , for it shall surely come. Put the Lord before everything else.”

Gogo Chibhamu has been hailed by her immediate community as a beacon of hard work, community coherence and peaceful coexistence.
