Former MDC-T spokesperson and Labour Economic African Democrats (LEAD) president, Linda Tsungirirayi Masarira yesterday called out MDC-T Vice president Dr Thokozani Khupe for being a hypocrite.
Thokozani Khupe is on record blaming MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora for letting MDC-T members of the House of Assembly vote in support of Zimbabwe Constitution Amendment Bill No.2
Masarira said this on her Twitter handle responding to Khupe’s spokesperson Khaliphani Phungeni who told Zimlive that Dr Khupe voted “No” to the Constitutional Amendment Bill No.2 and she felt betrayed by her party now led by MDC-T president Mwonzora.
Masarira said Dr Khupe had enough power to sway the vote against the Amendment but did not use it.
“I believe in women taking charge but in this case Dr Thokozani Khupe exposed her shortcomings as leader of opposition in parliament. She was supposed to lead the national assembly under her, to vote NO, which she did not do, and here we have her apportioning blame. What hypocrisy!,” exclaimed Masarira.
Masarira’s statement is based on the fact that Mwonzora answers to the National Assembly which Dr Khupe leads and thus having more authority on party members.
” The leaders of the opposition of the whole parliament is Mwonzora, the leader in the opposition in the National Assembly is Dr Khupe.
I hear she never attempted to whip them into line despite her being the leader of opposition in the National Assembly,” said Masarira.
However Mwonzora during his press statement after Amendment Bill No. 2 had passed in Parliament said no adverse action will be taken against the members who voted yes amongst MDC-T parliamentarians.
Mwonzora and Masarira were both in Kwekwe getting their COVID-19 Vaccine second jab as part of the POLAD members.
